Faulkes Telescope South

Faulkes Telescope South is located in Siding Spring, near Coonabarabran, New South Wales, Australia.  It is a 2-metre research quality telescope that is operated robotically via the Internet.  The telescope was built by the Birkenhead-based company Telescope Technologies Ltd, a subsidiary of Liverpool John Moores University. The telescope's First Light was in 2004 but, owing to some difficulties with the installation, the telescope became operational in 2006.

Initial capital and operational funding for the Faulkes Telescope South was provided by The Dill Faulkes Educational Trust.

Faulkes Telescope South is now owned by Las Cumbres Observatory Global Telescope Network (LCOGTN). The DFET continues to support the Faulkes Telescope Project team at the University of Cardiff and enable schools access to the telescope Monday-Friday during UK school hours and term times.
